The American Single Reed Summit presents it's first International Clarinet Competition at the University of South Carolina from October 13-16, 2022. Regulations
Article 1 – The American Single Reed Summit, in collaboration with the University of South Carolina, presents the 1st American Single Reed Summit International Clarinet Competition. The summit will take place from October 13-16, 2022 with the dates of the competition taking place on October 14-15, 2022 at the University of South Carolina.
Article 2 – The Competition is available for two age categories:
Article 3 – The applicant is complicit with the regulations of the competition.
Article 4- The application will be submitted online from the ASRS official website by September 18, 2022 for College/Professional Category while October 1, 2022 for Young Artist Category. The competition registration fee is 60 USD. The competition accepts payment via PayPal.
Article 5 – The YouTube recording, which is required for the College/Professional category cannot be edited or processed. Cuts, editing or other technological manipulation are not permitted. The recording must contain an audio-visual performance of the candidate. Applicants will need to send the link as part of their application. The applicants who have passed through to the final round will be notified by email before September 21, 2022 (College/Professional) and October 3, 2022 (Young Artist).
Article 6 – The performances of the competition will be public. The participants are not obliged to perform their program by memory. The program order of the pieces performed can be chosen by the competitor.
Article 7 – The order of performers will be determined by drawing. The drawing will take place in presence of the competitors.
Article 8 – An official recording of the competition will be made. Individual performances can be made available to competitors. Outside personal recordings of the competition are prohibited and will be reprimanded.
Article 9 – The President of the Jury has the right to interrupt a performance and instruct the competitor to move on their next selection. The jury will be composed of international musicians.
Article 10 – The jury has the right to not award prizes to inadequate musical performances and of awarding any ex-aequo prizes. The jury’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.
Article 11 – The participant has a choice to use the staff pianist assigned by the American Single Reed Summit for a fee of 100 USD or bring their own pianist. Payments will be made directly to the pianist if the participant chooses to use the pianist provided by the festival. ASRS will provide a rehearsal schedule for the participants of the competition on the first day of the festival.
Article 12 – Travel and accommodation expenses will be paid by the participants. The ASRS website will have suggestions for travel and accommodation facilities.
Article 13 – Should the competition not receive a minimum of 20 applicants for each category by the application deadline, ASRS reserves the right to cancel the competition, or a respective category of the competition, and will refund the entrance fees.
Article 14 – Participants will need to be registered for the American Single Reed Summit on all days of the competition.
Article 15 – Participants are expected to bring an official identification document showing proof of age. There will be a photocopy to verify participant’s age and category, which will be later destroyed after the completion of the competition.

- Pre-screening: YouTube video recording is required only for the College/Professional category;
- Recent headshot (high resolution);
- Curriculum vitae and short biography (150 words) in English.
